GOOD NEWS 好消息
KHAI MINH KIEU THANH’S REUNION DVD

Deadline: 5-30-08

Dear Sister Vuong Thieu Linh

On behalf of the Khaiminh KieuThanh party's organizers, we are very grateful for your lovely words and kind praise. In fact I am very embarrassed and feel that we are not deserved what you have said. We really enjoy what we have done for Khaiminh’s community and never think that is a sacrifice. We are very happy because we know you were joyful and satisfied with the party, thought we have made some mistakes but we make a commitment that we will adjust and improve it next time if we have a chance to do it again. Our goal is trying to bring all Trung-Hoa Khaiminh’s alumni from over the world together to have more joy and strengthen our long year wonderful relationship. As you all know the greatest ship in the world is not “Titanic“, but it’s “Trung-Hoa Khaiminh’s Friendship”. I am definitely sure you agree that our Trung-Hoa Khaiminh’s intimate relationship is very special which we can not find in any school, any provinces in Vietnam. The Chinese school in Cholon Saigon is so large; their relationship is not as strong as we are. Let’s take good care and reserve our great Trung-Hoa Khaiminh’s spirit forever.

I was so lucky that I had a chance to sing Shanghaitan for you at the park. I have recognized you right away at the first glance, your family used to have a restaurant in Nhatrang and you were my sister’s friend. I have to admit that I am very surprised that your writing is so perfect and we are very proud of you. Through your wonderful essay I can see that you have a very kind heart and possess a great wisdom.

Once again thank you so much for taking your valuable time sending your essay to Khaiminh.net. Your essay really inspires our spirits deeply. Please keep sharing with us your fantastic writings on any subject that you are concern.

Sincerely,

Bac Han

Great Article- please read
...United We Stand...

This phrase is so true, as I experienced the feeling during the unfolding of the 12/30/07 Trung Hoa / Khai Minh Reunion. The 12/30/07 Reunion has brought so much joy to many of its alumni and their families. I was fortunate to be among them.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who sponsored this Reunion for their generosity. I especially thank, Ta Quoc Hung, Han Bac Quang, Long Sai Hoa, Huynh Ai Lien, Phan Suy Hoa, Phan Gia Hung, Tuong Tai Luc and those who assisted in the Reunion for their effort and sacrifice to make this Reunion possible and memorable. Planning for such a grand event for over six hundred fifty people is not an easy task. These organizers have spent a lot of their valuable time on artistic work, planning, organizing and coordinating months in advance in order to prepare this Reunion. We have all witnessed the results of their hard work at the banquet. This banquet did not just offer us enjoyment of rich entertainment of many kinds; it also gave many of us an opportunity to re-unite with classmates and friends who many of us had not seen for decades. This Reunion, specifically designated for Kieu Thanh, brought back many memories to us as former Kieu Thanh basketball players and Kieu Thanh associated alumni. We were so proud when we were given the sport jackets. Everyone was so joyful and wanted to have his or her photo taken in front of the giant sports poster. Thanks to the clever planning of the organizers, we were arranged in groups to sit at the same or nearby table. These groups allowed us to be together after such a long time. We were happy to meet again - we hugged, chatted and shared our story of life with each other. When the banquet began, we were called to stand in formation behind the designated signs held by the hostesses. Then we were invited onto the stage, recognized and each was given a beautifully crafted trophy. It gave me a young and excited feeling as if we had just been in one of the former basketball tournaments. The organizers also arranged a picnic for all the alumni at a park with a basketball court the next day, so that we could have more time to reminisce. The most memorable event at the picnic was the basketball game between the women versus the men. Watching these players, who are now already in a grandparent’s age, still tried to play with their best effort, was an emotional event, which one has ever witnessed. The Reunion organizers’ effort and hard work have brought us tears of joy and brought the Trung Hoa / Khai Minh alumni of all ages closer together. These organizers deserve a lot of praise - what a “Great Job” they have done!

I also would like to thank and praise the local alumni, who, although they were not directly involved in the planning for the reunion banquet, did play an important role in this Reunion. These local alumni shared their joy by sacrificing their daily routine to provide transportation, food and a place to stay for their out-of-town fellow alumni. I think the success of this Reunion in attracting the large number of alumni attending from around the US and the world was in part due to the encouragement, enthusiasm and generosity of the local alumni.

...United We Stand...and VIVA our mother school Trung Hoa / Khai Minh!

My Post KM Party Thought

I missed the KM Grand Party in 2005 due to my flight delay from New York City to Los Angeles. I did not miss the KM Basketball Party this time and I enjoyed every moment of it.
I decided to bring my family along to let them see the tradition of the first Chinese School I attended when I was a kid. When we got to Hilton Hotel in San Gabriel in the evening of December 30, 2007, a lot of KM alumni were already there. They were having a good time talking to each other and taking photos.
This year, Ernest, the web master of khaiminh.net, asked my son to participate in a mini basketball drill to add more entertainment to the party. I encouraged my son Justin to participate. He gladly accepted the challenge. He was a bit nervous at first, but after a few dribbles, he felt right at home. Over all, the party was well organized with tradition Chinese dances, basketball drills, drama and singing performed by KM alumni and KM next generation. I am glad my son took place in one of the performances. It is always emotional to re-live the moment when I was studying at Khai Minh School in the 60’s and 70’s.
During the party, I had the honor of meeting Vincent Vuong in person. Vincent is a KM alumni and is also a successful businessman in Vietnam. He weathered the tough time in late 70’s during the most severe financial hardship. On top of that, he had to over come the emotional stress to see most of his friends leaving the country during the infamous “refugee wave.” I don’t know if I can survive emotionally and financially if I were him but he did. I always want my children to meet him in person to see a real life example of a successful person.
When I was wondering around the hotel lobby, I saw a familiar face but I was not so sure. When I approached him, I found out he is Truong Bac, I called him Ty. Ty is my first friend when I was a kid. I haven’t seen him for more than 30 years. Needless to say we had a lot to talk to make up for the time loss between us. He is now living in Canada. I will surely make a trip there to see him in the near future.
I had a great time with my KM classmates. We chatted, we joked, and we danced through the night. I am always proud of our friendship. I believe this is one of the most precious things I have besides my family. I also invited some of my friends from my Vietnamese school to join the KM party. They enjoyed the party as much as we did. They told me they never laugh so hard in their life.
My big and sincere thanks to the party organizers who had done a remarkable job to make this party one of the most memorable parties I ever attended.

Aftermath of Khaiminh’s Party 2008

Wow! How do I start writing about the Trung-Hoa Khai-Minh Kieu-Thanh Reunion Party on last Sunday, 12/30/07. There are a mix emotion of joy and sadness, of course more joy than sadness. Eventually the party is over, but so many beautiful, lovely, emotional, remarkable things are still in our minds and we keep talking about it over and over again. We are sad because the party did not go as smooth as the way we expected.

First of all on behalf of the party organizer which consists of some enthusiastic former students, as for the first time, had a chance to organize such a huge event. We admitted that we have made some mistakes which may cause inconvenience for some people, because there are only a few of us try to coordinate a party of more 650 people. Most of us were happy, but some were not pleased; therefore, we sincerely ask everyone to find a way to forgive us and if in the future we had a chance to organize Khaiminh’s party again, we will assure you that we will avoid those mistakes that we have made and everyone will surely have a great time together again.

One of the crucial achievements is there are so many friends did not see each other for a long long time even more than 40 years, for the first time they had a chance to meet each other, talking out of their breath in joy and laughing in tears. One of the remarkable things at the party is several hundreds Kieu-Thanh members and family, senior and friends from Australia, France, Canada, Saudi Arabia, German and even from Vietnam and hundreds of friends from many different states have spend lots of money, time for the entire trip to attend the party and more importantly they have brought with them the enthusiastic, the laughing and Khaiminh’s great spirit to the party.

I have to mention that there are quite a few outstanding stories that we have learned, such as Mr. & Mrs. My Nam who came from France have quoted “ 30 long years in France is not worth than one wonderful night in Khaiminh’s party. “ And they also quoted that “ If we knew there is such one night which we can meet almost everyone in our lovely Nhatrang, then we would not have gone to Vietnam. “ I have never heard any quote which aroused strong emotion and so meaningful than that. One more story which really touches my heart is there is a lady whom from another state, at the last minute had accidentally checked out Khaiminh.net website and saw Mr. & Mrs. My Nam’s names in the donation list, she bought the ticket without hesitation and flew in a hurry just to see them whom they have not seen for 40 years. She brought a black & white old picture which her father whom had passed away, took with Mr. & Mrs. My Nam 50 years ago, and she had been looking for them for so many years. Mr. & Mrs. My Nam were so astonished and they were so moved embracing each other in joy and in tears and keep talking about the wonderful memories between them and her beloved father.

One of Kieu-Thanh members Mrs. Diep Thoai Anh for the first time had a chance to see so many friends from all over the world in one night for more than 30 years. I am sure she has a great story to share with us.

Mr. Minh who is the owner of Bac-Nam Herbal store in Santa Ana, had learned about Khai-Minh’s party in the last minute and was in panic keep calling me for saving him a ticket on the night of the party. He finally made it to the party and were so happy to see so many friends and relatives whom he has lost contact for more than 30 years. He was so happy for such an event.

My classmate Cao Tuyet Bang who for the first time has come to United States just to attend the party, she has met all friends and relatives all over the world in one night party. Needless to say how happy she was. Everything happened so quickly as if she is having a day dream. She will carry those fantastic memories in her mind for the rest of her life.

My lovely sister from Toronto Han Ai Linh whom for the first time after 40 years had a chance playing basketball with all of her great Kieu-Thanh friends and she did make a couple shots after taking medication and she had run as fast as she can and stealing ball as hard as she never try before for a long long time. She had made a few basketball shots in joy with tears. What an emotional scene at the picnic! Everyone at the park gather together and keep singing over and over again “Union is Power “with full of joy. We all feel so wonderful.

Those above stories are just only a few that we have come across; I know there are hundreds of wonderful stories out there among us, so please share your fantastic stories to let the world know how great the event was and how intimate the relationship that we have had. Please continue to preserve our wonderful relationship and our contact closely.

As we have talked to lots of friends after the party, we have learned that in general everyone was very happy and had a great time. It was a very rare memorial event for our school. We acknowledge that we still have lots of thing to adjust and improve therefore we open our minds for your comments and really appreciate for your feed back. Please call or email :

Bac Han - Cell (415) 810-2178 bachan1008@yahoo.com

Once again we really appreciate for all the wonderful donations from everyone all over the world, without your support and your attendance, Khaiminh’s school wouldn’t be able to have such a fantastic time together. Please check out our Khaiminh.net for more pictures, video and updated news. We will distribute party DVD’s to those friends we have contact or get a copy from friends who have it or please email us your address so we can mail one to you. Thank you so much for your support and your understanding.
